LPCH3 (IMHP1540)

Background:
The north east plain zone (NEPZ), peninsular zone (PZ) and central western zone (CWZ) together have approximately 82.7 lakhs hectare area under maize cultivation. In India, almost 100% of popcorn available in the market is imported from abroad; therefore the current technology was developed to meet out the domestic demand. There is lots of scope to enhance farmers’ income by growing specialty corns like popcorn. Popcorn is the one type of specialty corn, which can be cultivated by the farmers across the seasons to earn more from less in-put. Now a day there is huge demand of popcorn in the city, malls and urban area. Farmers can take this as an opportunity to increase their income. It is none-perishable, can be store for longer duration and can sell as and when suitable price is there in the market. In, India there is only one early maturing popcorn single cross hybrid released; therefore development of high yielding single cross hybrid of popcorn with different genetic background will help in sustaining yield and diversity in the system. Besides it will also help in meeting out the different choices of the stakeholder. With short duration it can fit very well in any cropping system. :
Technology Details:
In view of importance of popcorn in India, the early maturing popcorn hybrid LPCH3 developed, released and notified from CVRC for NEPZ, PZ and CWZ cultivation can help in fulfilling the demand of popcorn in the city and mall. This is the early maturing hybrid which can be fit easily in any of the cropping system. Therefore, by growing this popcorn hybrid, farmers can increase their income as well as can help in fulfilling the required demands of popcorn in our country. This hybrid was released and notified in the year 2020 by CVRC. The synchrony of male and female flowering needs to be checked and standardize while seed production at required site.
